Welcome back to another exciting new year!
Last year, we ran a series of workshops on evidence-based medicine. These were well-received and proved a valuable resource for people who had not intercalated, as well as useful revision for people who had.
This year, we return for more, with the addition of regular journal club sessions to practice the skills that you have learnt from the workshops. This is not only a fantastic boost to the CV, but also very useful for impending clinical years and work upon graduation, especially if you haven’t intercalated. Early years can also benefit by receiving a heads up before the dreaded 2nd year coursework on critical appraisal of a paper. We aim to give you a rounded approach to reading a journal paper, brief and relevant statistical knowledge, and a general introduction to the world of research. Students who attend more than 80% of all the workshop and journal club sessions will be issued a certificate of participation.
We are also introducing a new pilot mentorship scheme primarily for fourth year students. Mentors help provide advice and support on getting started with audits, projects and other research opportunities. Places are very limited, but interested students are welcome to email us for more information!
Below is a list of tentative dates for this year’s workshops and journal clubs. All sessions will take place at 1900h at the Western Infirmary G6/7 Library (G block, above wards 3 and 4) unless further notice.
We will publish details of upcoming events on this website, so do check back for updates. Remember you can also subscribe for updates through the link on the right!
